On August 12, 2026, Lars Grammel and Eric Dodds explained how the AI SDK team built ai-sdk-factory after the repo piled up over 1,000 open issues and nearly 800 pull requests. Dedicated agents classify issues, reproduce bugs, analyze features, implement changes, review PRs, update docs, and open backports — each agent scoped to one task with its own prompts and evals. Humans still merge every change.
Security is built in from the second agent onward: every run happens in an isolated Vercel Sandbox with only the secrets that task needs, plus a network shield so untrusted issue or PR content cannot exfiltrate credentials. Four weeks into production the factory authored about 25–35% of merged mainline PRs, more than half of weekly v5/v6 backport merges, and closed over 75% of July issues while shrinking the open-issue peak.
Agent-assisted maintenance of the TypeScript AI stack sits beside the same Vercel and Next.js tooling you use in Chapter 1.
